Well, we released our first beta (I should really call it an alpha) to our huge posse of testers last week (OK, 7) and the forms are starting to trickle in. So far we’re getting really good feedback, and the major requests are already on our todo lists. But we’re starting to run out of time, and there’s still a ton of things to do. Who would have thought it was so tough to get an app released on the app store? Honestly, the construction and creation of the app itself has been the least stressful part of this (for me, at least.)
The real issue is how we’re going to get the word out. Marketing is, as always, the central problem. I guess it’s pretty easy if you want to release a crappy one and have it sink without a trace, but we’re hoping (foolishly, I know) that maybe a few people will download, and enjoy, and tell their friends, and they told two friends, and they told two friends, and so on. Come to think of it, that Fabergé commercial pretty much foreshadowed social media and viral videos.
Ironic that it’s now on YouTube. And guess what? Even this digression isn’t unique. Rats. Nothing new under the sun indeed.
Anyway, things are looking pretty good on the app front. Iuliana continues to pitch fantastic designs to Matt, who continues to hit them out of the park in the codebase, while Paul looks on from the media box and writes blog entries that make light of the entire process. It really looks like this is going to be a well crafted, great looking app; one I never imagined that would come together this well. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the world thinks.
